How do we raise and use funds?

Capital is essential to achieve our mission and for the success of our member’s businesses. As a community, we use our funds for the good of the collective. We have 3 primary sources of revenue. We are discerning when applying for grants because we are not funded nor have the capacity yet to maintain that process.

Members.

Members dues and sponsors are used to compensate fellow members community labor including but not limited to: community management, facilitation and speaking at bi-weekly meetups, content creation, social media management, admin and expense approvals, fiscal sponsorship compliance, managing our private Slack, and several other SaaS platform fees.

Corporate Sponsors.

We’re seeking corporate sponsors to help us develop and launch FL5’s Media Lab, our publishing platform. Together, we’ll create collaborative content (both a podcast and newsletter) with up and coming voices making work that works for everyone.

You.

We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to help with our general operations, social media support, community research, coverage of events, member grants, and special projects.

FLOWLab⁵ is fiscally sponsored by Hack Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

What does it mean to be fiscally sponsored?

The short answer is that FLOWLab⁵ gets all the legal and financial benefits of being a nonprofit without the price or paperwork.

As a hosted nonprofit we can apply for grants, product discounts, collect tax-deductible donations, and benefit from being under the umbrella of a larger organization and their administrative capacity.

Fiscal hosts help communities like us get up and running more quickly, with less overhead and without expensive legal fees. It’s not a permanent solution, but a stepping stone to securing our own 501c3 status.

We’re grateful to Hack Club Foundation, aka HCB, for their platform and administrative support, ensuring we can continue serving members and receive tax-deductible donations.

FLOWLab⁵ is raising $1 million USD (yes, really!) to support member-led projects and cover operating costs.

We can’t do it without you!!

Why $1 Million? This is the floor we need to make this sustainable. Our primary goals are to offer micro-grants to at least a dozen founding members and support the costs of operating bi-weekly meetups, rebranding and designing a new platform, hosting Slack, a book club, and providing 1:1 technical advising.

When we reach our $1M fundraising milestone, we will have the support to seek larger grants and sponsors, and produce a member-led conference, to convene our global membership irl.

Additional funds help us increase our TA (Technical Advising) and fund a minimum of 2 grants for emergency mutual aid needs. Currently, we support a limited number of member projects.

Make your tax-deductible donation today!

*Fine print: For tax information and regulations consult your CPA or tax advisor. We are not a legal, financial or tax advisory service.

Transparency = accountability.

FLOWLab opted in to share our “Transparent Finances” on our HCB nonprofit page. With this open budget, everyone can track where the money flows.

Donors and sponsors can follow your contributions and make an immediate impact. Whether we use funds to improve our membership experience, host a conference, update our tech platforms, provide micro grants, or offer 1:1 technical assistance, you can be confident the support you give is going to the mission and our members.

Capital is essential to achieve our mission and for the success of our member’s businesses. As a community, we use our funds for the good of the collective, supporting the most in need first.

Members dues are kept low to keep the community accessible but we encourage everyone to give something. Members participate in budget governance meetings and help direct how we use the profits we put back into our community.
